From The Truth About Responsibility - Live Conversation
Transcript of the clip above: So responsibility shouldn't be a trap. Responsibility should not be a trap. If it's a trap, then it's not responsibility, it's obligation. There are very few things in life that we are obligated to. Very, very few. And I would challenge you in the idea that you're obligated to your children, to marriage, to a job, to anything. I would challenge you in the idea that you are obligated to anybody or anything outside of you at all. The only true obligation we have in life is to ourselves. That's it. That's it. So I frame responsibility around the idea of radical freedom, radical independent sovereignty and freedom. And if I try to plug that into today's world, into how society functions today, It actually breaks most things. It completely breaks and reframes society in an entirely new way.
Yesterday I recorded a video where I talked to myself in a room for an hour. It was magical—and way outside my comfort zone. Not because of the camera; I’m fine with that. It was the words. I said things I’ve never said out loud in quite that way before.
Over the past couple of years my work has grown edgier. My views aren’t mainstream. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but I don’t fit neatly into the usual left–right divide either.
I’ve shared before that I believe food, clothing, shelter, healthcare, and education should be free so no one has to struggle just to survive. I also believe in a radical freedom most people would probably find unsettling.
This video touched those edges—especially around obligation and responsibility. As you’ll hear in the clip above, I don’t believe you are obligated to anyone or anything outside yourself. You are the only part of your life that isn’t a choice.
Choosing something doesn’t mean you’re bound to it forever. Marriage doesn’t trap you in the marriage. Having children doesn’t trap you in the role of parent. A job doesn’t trap you in that job. Everything is a choice—including the relationships you were taught were never supposed to be.
In this hour-long dialogue I flipped the script on responsibility and obligation, on what the system tells you is true and what’s actually true. Society has sold us a story of struggle, fear, greed, lack, and pain—and keeps the loop going to preserve the very structure it relies on.
I was raised to stay between the lines, to avoid rocking the boat. But the more inner work I’ve done—and the more I’ve delved into philosophy and the thinkers who question our world—the more I see how deeply broken the system is. Given the state of things today, there’s no better time to speak these ideas out loud.
If you’re curious, the replay is available on my website for $22 CAD. It’s a private YouTube link, so you can watch or listen on any device and revisit it anytime.
I hope you’ll take the time to watch. Come in with an open mind and be ready to be challenged on your ideas around obligation and responsibility.
Thanks for your continued support.
Love to all.
